During the final year of my PhD, I rediscovered an old passion: drawing/sketching/painting/nature journaling. For a while, I joined a small group on Twitter committed to #dailydrawing. Nowadays, I try to bring something down on paper once a week. It is hard to find time for it, but almost always it is rewarding. It is my way of meditation.
Sometimes I get requests from friends to paint this or that and, by doing so, they force me to test new grounds. I mostly do water color, since it is easy to work with, rather forgiving and light to carry. I paint from own photos or photos I find online. What I enjoy most is the actual "nature journaling", when I paint from an life object, sitting in the grass and trying to capture that flower and the light on site. These do not always become my most epic drawings, but they are irreplaceable and very valuable diary entries for me. |
